Dachau Crematoria





This photo was presumably taken by the U.S. Seventh Army's 45th Infantry Division near the time of
liberation on April 29, 1945.  At the time that this picture was taken, Dachau was at peace, but europe
was still in extreme conflict.  The photo shows what looks like a normal building, but on the inside,
thousands of corpses were burned to destroy the evidence of the atrocity.  The Germans used
crematoria in all of their concentration camps and death camps and with three furnaces running they
could dispose of 340 bodies a day (Jewish Virtual Library).
