In Night Elie starts to lose faith because if there was a god, then why was WWII happening? He really losses faith when the young Pipel was executed. “The two men were no longer alive. Their tongues hanging out, swollen and bluish. But the third rope was still moving: the child, too light, was still breathing…
And so he remained there for more than half an hour, lingering between life and death, writhing before our eyes. And we were forced to look at him close range. He was still alive when I passed him. His tongue was still red, his eyes not yet extinguished.
Behind me, I heard the same man asking:
“For God’s sake, where is God?”
And from within me, I heard a voice answer:
“Where is He? This is where - hanging here from the gallows.. ?
That night the soup tasted of corpses” (Wiesel 64).
To Elie family is the most important thing, especially in WWII. He is always looking for a way to stay with his father. “As for me, I was thinking not about death but about not wanting to be separated from my father. We had already suffered so much, endured so much together. This was not the moment to separate. I ran outside to look for him. The  snow was piled high; the blocks’ windows veiled in frost. Holding a shoe in my hand, for I could not put it on my right foot, I ran, feeling neither pain nor cold. “What are we going to do?” My father didn’t answer. “What are we going to do?” He was lost in thought. The choice was in our hands. For once. We could decide our fate for ourselves. To stay, both of us, in the infirmary, where, thanks to my doctor, he could enter as either a patient or a medic” (Wiesel 80). The chose to leave, together. That's all they wanted. They just wanted to stay together for the time they had together

I think that there could be a bit more of description of the quotes that you used. There are good examples of your chosen element. Maybe spell out World War 2 and describe how Elie got to the point he did where he no longer believed in God.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on how Elie lost faith in God. Elie did not believe in him anymore because their was no sign he was giving to make all this end.
