In Night, I have discovered a pattern in Elie Wiesel's story, a constant decrease of his Faith. From the start of the book Wiesel starts to hint at a gradual decrease of his prayer and reverence to his god. Event after event Wiesel experiences hell on earth, children hanging on his gallows, friends and family getting beaten to the ground right in front of his eyes. To god he exclaims “look at these men whom You have betrayed, allowing them to be tortured, slaughtered, gassed, and burned, what do they do? They pray before You! They praise Your name!" (Wiesel 68) The sheer weight these things drive him to change his mindset, to a cold unbelieving man. His faith torn away from him by the events thrown on his shoulders. Later he comes to believe that he himself was no better than one of the monsters that was keeping them in captivity ,therefore he reinvigorated his faith once more.

  1. I agree with that theme, I did it as well. You picked good quotes, I can feel his anger through his writing.

  2. This is very true. What did these people do to deserve this? If they pray and they are good Jewish people why are they being punished so harshly.
